The 59th Primetime Emmy Awards at the Shrine Auditorium

This was a controversial year for the Emmy’s and Producer Ken Ehrlich. Ken wanted to make his mark on the show and decided to shoot it in the round. It was a tough assignment for me and also for the recipients of the awards — as they didn’t know where to look as their show contingent might be in front of them or behind them and cameras were everywhere. Winners felt obliged to thank the people behind them as well in front of them so I had to shoot 360 degrees on the fly as they turned this way and that to capture the moments. Needless to say the “in the round” concept for awards shows has not caught on.
